I am an assistant professor of technical communication at Illinois State University. I teach and research a range of technical communication and digital rhetoric topics, including design and information architecture, ethics, identity, and social media.
My dissertation, Memes and 4chan and Haters, Oh My! Rhetoric, Identity, and Online Aggression, examines ways to resist hostility online and open pathways to civil dialog. I examine memes and counter-memes, identity rhetoric on 4chan, and YouTube parodies to determine methods for establishing constructive digital discourse about key identity issues like race, gender, and sexuality.
When I'm not teaching, researching, or writing, you can usually find me enjoying nature in one form or another or working on my taekwondo technique.
